It took me a long to figure out what I wanted to do after graduating from URI with a degree in communications.
After many years in the workforce, I tried to figure out how my degree in communications would benefit me or others. To no avail.....I couldn't find one. No one wants to hear how communication is important. No one wants to hear that it takes special skills to be able to negotiate and resolve conflict or to be able to stand up in front of a large audience without having a panic attack. Then it hit me one day....maybe I could bring these skills into a high school setting and share with others the art of communication along with the reading struggles I have encoutered throughout my education. But how was the question.
I knew I would have to go back to school in order to teach in a classroom, so I started taking education classes back at URI. (In the back of my mind, I was saying to myself,"What am I crazy?") Then, I saw a cool commercial about how science is everywhere.... and then I saw this one (click on link) and thought....yeah..this is what I'm going to do!
Since education has brought many challenges to me, and I had come this far, I wasn't going to let anything stand in the way of me becoming a professional teacher. And so, here I am.
Nice to hear you are still determined... Nice video, too.
